We all have them and we’re all ashamed to admit it! Bad habits are those that form either at an early age or out of stress or some other reason, and they are certainly hard to break. We have likely tried to kick the bad habit before, whatever it is, and it may have ended up in total failure. No matter what the bad habit may be, whether it’s smoking, binge drinking, binge eating, or just something as simple as biting our nails, it is hard to quit. There is no use in trying to quit before we are ready because it won’t work. You have to know that you are ready to quit and you have to know why, for if you don’t then the whole thing could blow up in your face! So if you are truly ready to kick that bad habit, take a few things into consideration.
Figure Out What is Motivating You
What is prompting you to quit the bad habit? Is it somebody else? Is it an upcoming occasion that you want to get all ready for? Is it something within you that tells you that it’s just time? Whatever the cause or the reason for you wanting to be done with the unhealthy habit, you need to get tuned into it. If you aren’t sure, then this won’t help to motivate you along the way. Be sure that you know and understand what your motivation is and where it derives from because that will help to keep you motivated and inspired along the way. Just one slip and you can get back to that point of motivation, and that helps a lot!
Commit to The Cause
You need to know in your head and in your heart that you are committed to the cause. You need to know without the shadow of a doubt that you are ready to quit and that you are going to stick with it this time. Even if you have failed in the past, you need to know that this time is different and use the past failure to help move you forward. They say that you learn from past mistakes and that is especially true when it comes to kicking a bad habit. Find whatever is within you to be done once and for all and get in tune with that strength. This is what will help you to keep moving and ensure that you make it stick this time.
Stick With It Even If You Fall Off Track
You may have a bad time of it or even a moment of weakness. Though you will work hard not to, you may even slip and fall off track at one time. Even if that worst case scenario does present itself, you need to know that you can get back to it. You need to stick with it, and pick yourself up when the going gets tough or if you fall off the wagon. Having the ability to stay strong or to brush yourself off after a fall is a big part of the process. Be sure that you can stick with it this time and that if you fall off the wagon, you can get right back on again. That’s what will make this time different!
